    This course offers an extensive foundation in skill development, training, and resources tailored for real estate professionals aiming to excel in representing sellers in today's dynamic marketplace. Participants will gain the knowledge and tools necessary to increase their listings and expand their business, effectively demonstrating and communicating their unique value propositions to seller clients.  The curriculum emphasizes a comprehensive understanding of the Code of Ethics and Standards of Practice, ensuring participants can uphold these principles in their professional conduct. By understanding and adhering to these ethical guidelines, professionals can protect the public by promoting honesty, transparency, and fairness in all transactions. The course also covers the importance of complying with state license laws when representing sellers, which includes safeguarding consumer interests and ensuring that transactions are conducted legally and ethically.  Learning outcomes include: Increase listings and grow their business. Demonstrate and communicate their value package to seller clients. Understand and apply the Code of Ethics and Standards of Practice. Understand and comply with state license laws when representing sellers. Understand and apply methods, tools, and techniques to provide the support and services that sellers want and need. Understand that the representation skills required to represent sellers encompass a comprehensive understanding of the legal duties and license law responsibilities. 
    This course provides 3 hrs. Ethics, 2 hrs. Agency & Contracts, and 3 Real Estate Related CE. It provides 2 hrs. Current Trends/Issues PLE.

    For more than a decade, Ryan has honed his knowledge of Virginia’s housing market. Before stepping into his current role of Virginia REALTORS® Chief Economist, Ryan served as the association’s Deputy Chief Economist. Prior to joining our team, he served as the President of research consulting firm LSA Planning, as an Urban Planner for the City of Alexandria, and as part of the research team at the Center for Regional Analysis at George Mason University. Even before joining VAR full time, Ryan spent years contributing to our research, including the monthly Virginia Home Sales Report and our quarterly regional market reports. He holds a bachelor’s degree in finance from James Madison University and a master’s degree in urban planning from Virginia Tech.

    Sejal Naik

    Deputy Chief Economist

    Virginia REALTORS®

    Prior to joining Virginia REALTORS® as the Deputy Chief Economist, Sejal worked as an Economist at the US Securities and Exchange Commission. She has also contributed to economic research and analysis at the American Bankers Association, Freddie Mac, and The Advisory Board Company. She graduated with a master’s degree in Finance from the University of California San Diego and a bachelor’s degree in Economics from George Mason University.

    This three-hour course will provide information to real estate licensees on the National Association of REALTORS® Code of Ethics and how they can ensure that they comply with the Code of Ethics requirements. This is directed toward real estate licensees who are members of the National Association of REALTORS®. First, the course will thoroughly provide an overview of the Code of Ethics. The class will then examine the process by which someone files a complaint alleging a violation of the Code of Ethics. Finally, it will review some specific scenarios to provide examples of the most common violations relating to the Code of Ethics.

    As Staff Counsel for Virginia REALTORS®, Jon wears many hats. He works with the rest of the legal team to teach, create podcasts and legal videos, and even draft legal briefs for the Supreme Court of Virginia. After graduating from the University of Richmond School of Law, Jon clerked for a Circuit Court judge and then worked for a large claims administration firm in town. Those jobs gave him a wide array of legal experiences, which he has been putting to use helping protect REALTORS® since 2017. As busy as he is with work, he is equally as busy having fun outside of work! He lends his guitar skills to his band, Church Hill Music Company. The Atlanta Braves and UVA sports (2019 National Champs!) play a big role in his life—no matter how painful some seasons may be! With his wife, Mandy, by his side, they enjoy exploring new restaurants. Southern and Indian cuisines rank on his top favorite food list.

    Forms and contracts are all the same, right? Think again! You might be able to find, market, and showcase a home, but can you close the deal? This course will provide guidance and tactical skills for writing and presenting a variety of real estate agreements, such as sales contracts, deposits, and title insurance. The course will also cover, in detail, disclosure forms and contingencies associated with the sales contracts. It will give students hands-on experience with the basics of sales contracts along with the best ways to serve and protect their clients.

    CE/PL Approved: 1 Hour Real Estate Contracts and 5 Hours Real Estate Related for CE

    Michael Guthrie

    Michael Guthrie is the CEO and Managing Broker of Roy Wheeler Realty in Charlottesville, VA. He joined the company in November of 2005 after being a Realtor in Northern Virginia since 1983. Since taking over Roy Wheeler, the company has expanded from 1 to 6 offices and now has more than 135 Realtors running their businesses under the Roy Wheeler corporate structure. Michael was named Charlottesville’s Realtor of the year in 2009, the Charlottesville Chamber’s Small Business person of the year in 2010, and was the Charlottesville Area Association of Realtors Code of Ethics Award recipient in 2014. Michael currently serves on the Virginia Association of Realtors Board of Directors as well as hosting his weekly radio show, Real Estate Matters on WINA every Saturday morning. He has taught DPOR approved courses in Charlottesville and throughout the Commonwealth of Virginia.
